DROPPED

David Levine is an artist by way of acting, he has a degree in intellectual history, English literature, and directing, but it's hard to feel comfortable characterizing him as anything else. Born and bred in London, David never had any other ambition than to pursue his passion in photography. He describes his parents as neither ‘encouraging nor discouraging' but it didn't really matter as his mind was set and no-one could have stopped him from going after his dream.

LEI FENG

I came across this news from a photographic magazine. Dai Xiang, a Chinese photographer, has made this photo album with a 1/6 Lei Feng figure and his superb photo editing skills. I think he has done an amazing work and I would like to share here. Lei Feng was a soldier of the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China. He was characterised as a selfless and modest person who was devoted to Chairman Mao Zedong and the people of China. In the posthumous "Learn from Comrade Lei Feng" campaign, begun by Mao in 1963, the youth of the country were indoctrinated to follow his example.
The photo series by Dai Xiang has an interesting interpretation of this legendary Chinese PLA hero.

UPON THE SAME BED

Shi Xiaofan’s statement:
In the same hospital, upon the same bed, different people die in their different ways.
In my experience, hospitals, which have always determined life and death, are a symbol of power and violence, when people are born in this place, and when they die, they seem to be so insignificant and powerless.
In this series, I wanted to use a surrealist technique and a precise pictorial composition to depict what happens at the death of normal people in a country fixated by heroism; the relationship between a few ordinary people and the state as i understood it.

BILLY UND HELLS

Inspired by the photographs of Irving Penn and Helmut Newton,  Billy und Hells started to work in the field of fashion photography. They , accidentally came across a technique that would define their future works. By forgetting to take a black and white negative out of a Wühltisch developer, they developed a beautiful Baryt picture. This  process is now known as a Lithprint. Later on they discovered that combining  a black and white slidefrom a colour negative with a colour picture, a beautiful photograph emerged with fantastic effects. Because of this technique, the colours are reduced but give a intense effect. This technique reduces the colours but results simultaneously in an intensity, which they were unable to reach with regular photography. The results were  unexpected but very satisfying.

THE LANGUAGE OF STILLNESS

Some people just don’t accept conventional rules, limitations and dogmas. Though, such people are rather creators than destructors. They may question every axiom around, but they do so not to destroy the rules, but to find the answer to the "why" question. Doubting the laws of physics and erasing the border between conciseness and dreaming, they shed light onto the alternative world. The world, where impossible becomes evident, and the perception of reality is shifted to its next level. Needless to say that it is art that allows enough space for such people to exist, create, and share their ideas. Martin Stranka is a young photographer, whose works are centered at the fragile moments of the human existence between a slumber and reality.

SHINORAMA

Kishin Shinoyama houses a constant care of ever-renewed, polymorphic photographic expression, thus dwells on the technical aspects of photography (creation of the "Shinorama", from 3 to 3x3 linked cameras) and, contrarily to rather unchanging photographers such as Daido Moriyama, he changes the size, grain and colors of his shots from one series to the other which makes his work, to critics's despair, hard to categorize, and gives it a very peculiar and most fortunate dimension.
